The Untold Story Behind “I Will Always Love You”
Whitney Houston, with her unparalleled vocal range and emotive delivery, gave us countless hits. But perhaps her most famous and enduring song, “I Will Always Love You,” has a fascinating backstory many might not know. This power ballad, which became synonymous with her and the film “The Bodyguard,” was originally written and recorded by country icon Dolly Parton in 1973!
Even more surprising? It almost didn’t make it onto “The Bodyguard” soundtrack! The producers initially considered another song for the film’s climax. It was Kevin Costner, Whitney’s co-star, who suggested “I Will Always Love You” after hearing Linda Ronstadt’s cover.
