Don’t Eat It

The Little Girl Pointed at Her Sandwich and Whispered, “Don’t Eat It” | Part 2

The young waitress thought she finally had a few quiet minutes to herself.

After spending hours carrying trays, taking orders, and rushing between tables, she sat down in a quiet corner of the elegant restaurant with a simple sandwich and a cup of tea.

She hadn’t eaten since early that morning.

She picked up the sandwich and was just about to take her first bite when she heard a small voice beside her.

“Miss…”

The waitress turned around.

A little girl was standing next to the table, clutching a small doll tightly against her chest.

The child looked frightened.

“Yes, sweetheart?” the waitress asked gently.

The girl didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she stared at the sandwich in the waitress’s hand.

Then she pointed directly at it.

“Don’t eat that.”

The waitress frowned.

“What?”

The girl stepped closer.

“Please… don’t eat it.”

Something about the fear in the child’s voice made the waitress slowly lower the sandwich.

“Why not?”

The little girl looked around nervously before leaning closer.

“Because I saw a man put something in it.”

The waitress froze.

“A Man Put Something in My Food?”

For a moment, the waitress thought she had misunderstood.

“What did you say?”

The little girl pointed at the sandwich again.

“A man came over when you weren’t here.”

The waitress stared at her.

“He touched my food?”

The child nodded.

“He opened the bread and put something inside.”

The waitress immediately placed the sandwich back on the plate.

Her appetite disappeared.

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

The girl’s voice was quiet but certain.

“I saw him.”

The waitress looked carefully at the sandwich.

From the outside, nothing seemed unusual.

“Who was he?”

The girl hesitated.

Then she slowly turned and pointed across the restaurant.

“He was sitting over there.”

The waitress followed her finger.

There was a table near the far side of the dining room.

But the chair was empty.

A half-finished cup of coffee remained on the table.

Nothing else.

“Where did he go?” the waitress asked.

The girl shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

Then she said something that made the waitress’s expression change completely.

“He’s been watching you for a long time.”

The Stranger Had Been Watching Her

“Watching me?”

The little girl nodded.

“Every time you walked past, he looked at you.”

The waitress felt a chill run down her back.

She tried to remember the guests she had served that afternoon.

There had been dozens.

Businessmen.

Couples.

Families.

Tourists.

But then she remembered him.

A man sitting alone at the corner table.

He hadn’t ordered much.

Only coffee.

She remembered walking past his table several times and feeling as though someone was staring at her.

At the time, she had ignored it.

Now she wasn’t so sure.

“What did he look like?” she asked.

The girl described the man as best she could.

With every detail, the waitress became more uneasy.

She knew exactly who the child meant.

“Why Would He Do That?”

The waitress looked back at the sandwich.

She didn’t touch it.

“Did you see what he put inside?”

The little girl shook her head.

“It was something small. He took it from his pocket.”

The waitress immediately pushed the plate farther away.

Then she crouched beside the child.

“Thank you for telling me.”

The little girl looked worried.

“Are you going to be okay?”

“I’ll be fine.”

But the waitress wasn’t convinced.

She looked across the restaurant again.

The mysterious man’s chair was still empty.

“Did he say anything to you?” she asked.

“No.”

“Did he see you watching him?”

The little girl hesitated.

“I think so.”

That answer worried the waitress even more.

She took the girl’s hand.

“Listen to me. Don’t go anywhere near him, okay?”

The child nodded.

Then suddenly, her eyes widened.

“There!”

The waitress quickly turned around.

Through the restaurant’s glass entrance, she could see the same man standing outside.

He wasn’t leaving.

He was watching them.

She Decided to Confront Him

The waitress stood.

She felt frightened, but also angry.

Why had a stranger been following her?

Why had he touched her food?

And what exactly had he put inside the sandwich?

She told another employee to stay with the little girl.

Then she walked toward the entrance.

The mysterious man immediately turned away.

“Sir!”

He stopped.

The waitress approached him.

“Were you sitting at that table?”

The man slowly turned around.

His expression was strangely calm.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“The little girl saw you.”

For the first time, his expression changed.

He looked through the glass toward the child.

Then back at the waitress.

“She shouldn’t have gotten involved.”

The waitress’s heart began pounding.

“So you DID touch my food?”

The man didn’t answer.

She stepped backward.

“Who are you?”

Again, silence.

“Why have you been watching me?”

The stranger looked around before speaking quietly.

“Because you’re in danger.”

The waitress stared at him.

“What?”

“You shouldn’t be here.”

Her confusion turned into anger.

“You put something in my food and now you’re telling me I’m in danger?”

“It wasn’t what you think.”

“Then what was it?”

The man looked toward the restaurant.

He seemed nervous now.

As though he was afraid of someone else watching them.

The waitress shook her head.

“No. You don’t get to do that.”

She looked him directly in the eyes.

“Whatever you’re trying to do, you don’t have the right to do something like that to me.”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“By secretly putting something in my food?”

The man fell silent.

The waitress took another step away.

“Stay away from me.”

She turned to go back inside.

But before she reached the door, the man called after her.

“Wait!”

She stopped.

His next words made her blood run cold.

“Don’t go back to your apartment tonight.”

She slowly turned around.

“How do you know where I live?”

The stranger said nothing.

Then the Little Girl Found Something Else

Suddenly, the restaurant door opened.

The little girl came running toward them.

“Miss!”

The waitress hurried toward her.

“What happened?”

The girl held something in her hand.

A tiny folded piece of paper.

“This was inside the bread.”

The waitress stared at it.

The stranger’s face immediately changed.

“Don’t open that here,” he said.

But she ignored him.

With trembling fingers, she unfolded the note.

There were only a few words written inside:

“HE KNOWS YOU’RE STILL ALIVE.”

The waitress’s face went pale.

She looked at the stranger.

“What does this mean?”

He didn’t answer.

“Who knows I’m alive?”

The little girl tightened her grip around her doll.

The stranger looked past the waitress and through the restaurant window.

His expression suddenly filled with fear.

The waitress followed his gaze.

A second man was standing inside the restaurant.

Watching them.

And this time, the stranger whispered:

“That’s the man you should be afraid of.”

The waitress stared through the glass.

She had seen that second man before.

Many times.

In fact…

he was someone she trusted.
