Recently, we challenged your classic cinema knowledge with a striking black-and-white portrait and asked: “CAN YOU GUESS WHO THIS IS?”
The options were all bona fide heartthrobs of the era: Keanu Reeves, Brendan Fraser, Ben Affleck, and Matt Damon. If you scratched your head or confidently placed your bet, it’s time for the big reveal!
And The Answer Is… Brendan Fraser!
That’s right! The captivating eyes and unmistakable charm belonged to none other than Brendan Fraser. Before he captivated us as Rick O’Connell in The Mummy, delighted us as George in George of the Jungle, or charmed us in Encino Man and School Ties, he was already making waves in Hollywood with his unique blend of charisma and comedic timing. For many of us, his face instantly brings back memories of thrilling adventures and heartwarming laughs from our favorite 90s films.
The Stunt That Nearly Cost Him Everything
Brendan Fraser is celebrated for his dedication to his roles, often performing his own stunts. But one particular incident during the filming of 1999’s The Mummy truly showcases his fearless, almost to a fault, commitment to realism.
During the iconic hanging execution scene inside the Cairo prison, Fraser was determined to make it look as terrifyingly authentic as possible. He reportedly asked the stunt crew to tighten the actual noose around his neck, standing on his tiptoes to ease the pressure. On the second take, the rope tragically slipped, completely cutting off his airway. Fraser choked and passed out cold on camera, his heart temporarily stopping!
Thankfully, the quick-thinking set paramedic rushed in, resuscitated him, and brought him back. It was a harrowing moment that highlights the extreme lengths actors sometimes go to for their craft, showcasing Fraser’s incredible bravery and dedication. It’s a secret that truly adds another layer to his legendary performance.
From 90s Icon to Award-Winning Star
Brendan Fraser has had an incredible journey, delighting audiences for decades and recently experiencing a well-deserved resurgence with his Academy Award-winning performance in The Whale. His enduring talent and beloved personality continue to make him a true Hollywood legend.
