If your skin feels dry or dull at the end of the day, a rich overnight moisturizer can help leave it feeling softer and smoother by morning. This DIY beauty recipe combines petroleum jelly, baby oil, cloves, and a small amount of black seed powder to create a thick, moisture-locking night cream.
Despite the viral name “Collagen Cream,” this homemade mixture does not actually replace collagen or reverse aging. Its main benefit comes from moisturizing and reducing water loss from the skin, which can temporarily make dry skin appear smoother and more supple.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon petroleum jelly (Vaseline)
- ½ teaspoon baby oil
- A very small pinch of finely ground cloves
- A small pinch of finely ground black seed (Nigella sativa), optional
How to Make It
Place the petroleum jelly in a clean glass bowl. Add the baby oil gradually and stir until the mixture becomes soft and creamy.
Next, add only a tiny pinch of finely ground cloves and black seed powder. Mix thoroughly until everything is evenly distributed and you have a smooth balm-like consistency.
Transfer the finished mixture to a clean, dry cosmetic jar with a lid.
How to Use
At night, cleanse your face and pat it completely dry. Take a very small amount of the mixture and apply a thin layer to areas that need extra moisture.
Petroleum jelly works as an occlusive, meaning it forms a protective layer that helps reduce moisture loss overnight. Baby oil adds extra emollience, giving the skin a softer and more conditioned feel.
Important Safety Note
Cloves and fragranced baby oils can irritate facial skin, especially sensitive or acne-prone skin. Patch test the finished mixture on a small area first and wait 24–48 hours before applying it more widely. Avoid the eye area and broken or irritated skin, and stop using it if you experience burning, redness, itching, or swelling.
For a gentler version, simply use plain petroleum jelly without cloves or other spices. And remember: moisturizing can improve the appearance of dryness and fine lines, but no DIY cream can reliably make a 55-year-old person’s skin biologically younger or rebuild lost collagen.
Beauty tip: A consistent routine with moisturizer and daily broad-spectrum sunscreen is much more important for maintaining healthy-looking skin than any overnight DIY trick.
