“Mom, Don’t Eat That!” — The Warning No One Believed
Morning sunlight poured through the enormous windows of the mansion, filling the elegant dining room with a warm golden glow.
Everything seemed peaceful.
At the long marble breakfast table, Victoria sat alone, enjoying her usual morning meal. Fresh berries, pastries, toast, orange juice, and coffee had been carefully arranged in front of her.
She picked up her fork and lifted a small bite toward her mouth.
But before she could eat it—
“Mom! Stop!”
Victoria froze.
Her seven-year-old daughter, Lily, stood beside the table clutching her favorite stuffed bunny tightly against her chest.
Her face was pale.
Her eyes were filled with fear.
Victoria slowly lowered her fork.
“What is it, Lily?”
The little girl stepped closer.
“Please, Mom. Don’t eat that.”
Victoria frowned.
“What are you talking about?”
Lily pointed directly at the plate.
“I saw someone put something in your food.”
For a moment, Victoria said nothing.
The room suddenly felt much quieter.
She glanced down at her breakfast.
Nothing looked unusual.
The berries were fresh. The pastry looked untouched. Even the coffee was exactly where it had been every morning.
Victoria sighed.
“Lily, that’s enough.”
“But I’m telling the truth!”
The girl’s voice began to shake.
Victoria had an important meeting that morning and little patience for another one of her daughter’s stories.
“Go to your room.”
Lily’s eyes widened.
“But Mom—”
“Now, Lily.”
Tears immediately appeared in the little girl’s eyes.
She hugged her stuffed bunny even tighter.
“I saw them,” she whispered. “I really did.”
Victoria pointed toward the doorway.
“Go.”
Lily stared at her mother for another second before turning and running from the dining room.
Her footsteps disappeared down the enormous hallway.
Then everything became silent again.
Victoria looked down at the fork still in her hand.
She was about to continue eating when Lily’s words returned to her.
I saw someone put something in your food.
Victoria hesitated.
Slowly, she placed the fork on the table.
Maybe Lily had imagined it.
But something about the terror in her daughter’s eyes bothered her.
Victoria leaned closer to the plate.
Nothing.
Then she noticed something beside the edge of the dish.
A tiny trace of unfamiliar powder.
Her expression changed.
She immediately stood up.
“Lily?”
No answer.
Victoria walked toward the hallway.
“Lily!”
Still nothing.
Her concern turned to fear.
She hurried upstairs and pushed open her daughter’s bedroom door.
The room was empty.
“Lily?”
The stuffed toys were still on the bed.
The window was closed.
But Lily was gone.
Then Victoria noticed something on the floor.
Her daughter’s stuffed bunny.
Lily never went anywhere without it.
Victoria slowly picked it up.
Her hands began to tremble.
Then she heard footsteps behind her.
She turned around.
Someone was standing at the end of the hallway.
Victoria’s face went pale.
Because suddenly, she understood.
Lily hadn’t been imagining anything.
Someone really had tampered with her breakfast.
And now, the only person who had witnessed it had disappeared.
To be continued…
