His recent work in Yellowstone further proves his enduring star power. Even in a black-and-white still, his intense gaze and undeniable charisma are unmistakable.
The Secret Behind The Bodyguard: Costner’s Unwavering Stand
Beyond his on-screen magic, Costner has a fascinating story from behind the scenes. In the late 1980s, during casting for The Bodyguard (1992), Hollywood was skeptical about pop superstar Whitney Houston in her first movie role. Studios had serious doubts.
However, Kevin Costner, who was both starring and producing, fiercely advocated for Houston. He saw her unique talent. He even delayed production for a year so Whitney could finish her music tour and take the role, personally promising she wouldn’t fail. He also insisted on her iconic, natural hairstyle.
Costner’s belief paid off spectacularly. The Bodyguard became one of the highest-grossing romantic dramas and its soundtrack remains the best-selling ever. It launched Whitney Houston’s acting career and solidified her global icon status. This story is a powerful testament to artistic conviction and the magic that happens when true talent is championed.
