This Banana Chia Ice Cream is creamy, naturally sweet, and very easy to make with just a few simple ingredients. You don’t need an ice cream machine—just a blender, a container, and a freezer.
The ripe banana gives the ice cream natural sweetness, Greek yogurt makes it creamy, and chia seeds add a slightly nutty texture.
Ingredients
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
Optional toppings
- Fresh banana slices
- Extra chia seeds
- Crushed walnuts
- A small drizzle of honey
- Mint leaves
How to Make Banana Chia Ice Cream
1. Prepare the bananas
Peel the bananas and cut them into small chunks.
For a thicker texture, you can freeze the banana pieces for about 2–3 hours before blending, but this is optional.
2. Add everything to the blender
Add the ingredients to the blender in this order:
Banana → Greek yogurt → honey → chia seeds.
Start with the softer ingredients at the bottom so the blender can process everything more easily.
3. Blend until creamy
Blend on high speed until the mixture becomes completely smooth.
The texture should be thick, creamy, and pale yellow, with tiny chia seeds visible throughout.
If the mixture is too thick for your blender, add 1–2 tablespoons of milk or water, but only if necessary.
4. Transfer to a container
Pour the banana chia mixture into a freezer-safe glass container.
Use a spatula to smooth the top.
Cover tightly with a lid.
5. Freeze
Place the container in the freezer for about 4–6 hours, or until firm enough to scoop.
For the creamiest texture, avoid freezing it for much longer than necessary.
6. Let it soften slightly
When ready to serve, remove the container from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for around 5–10 minutes.
This makes the ice cream easier to scoop and improves the texture.
7. Scoop and decorate
Use an ice cream scoop to make round scoops and place them in a dessert bowl.
Top with:
- banana slices
- chia seeds
- crushed walnuts
- a light drizzle of honey
You can also add a small mint leaf for a prettier finish.
Tips for the Best Texture
Use very ripe bananas with brown spots because they are sweeter and softer.
Full-fat Greek yogurt gives a creamier result than low-fat yogurt.
If you want an even richer texture, add 1–2 tablespoons of coconut cream before blending.
If the ice cream freezes very hard, simply let it soften for a few minutes before scooping.
